The Log Cabin Quilt pattern has grown to be a symbol of Americas values and ingenuity. Tradition has said that the central block is red, to symbolize the heart of the home, or the red chimney of the log cabin. Strips of fabric are then sewn around this central heart, in shades of light and dark, symbolizing the difficulties that early pioneers had in their westward quest, as well as the sunny, bright side of life with family and community. the Log Cabin is a great quilt for using up scraps of fabric, so many variations of this popular design were created, and are still around today.
This Cabin Splendor Quilt measures 100 x 111 inches and will fit a King or Queen size bed. Handquilted in South Central Pennsylvania by Rachel H, an Old Order ( Amish ) Mennonite woman, and she has embroidered her initals RH on the back of the quilt. There are approximately 6 to 7 handquilted stitches per inch in this Amish Quilt. The beautiful moss green and wine colored printed fabric is a wonderful contrast to the deep wine logs and stems in this Cabin Splendor Amish Quilt. A coffee on cream patterned fabric is on the back of this amazing quilt.
Rachel has quilting running in her family, as all her sisters and her mother are meticulous quilters. She has taught the art to her daughter, who has children still under foot, so she cannot quilt enough to gain the experience to master the craft the way her mother, Rachel has. Rachel has her quilting frame set up so she can keep her eye on the family farm, and still enjoy the peace and tranquility that stitchery brings. Rachel is an Old Order Mennonite Quilter, often called Amish Mennonite Quilters. This quilt comes with a free fabric storage bag.
